About Dallas
The Refugee Services of Texas Dallas Service Center opened its doors in 1978 as the Dallas-Fort Worth Intra Agency, coordinating for refugee service providers and clients in the North Texas area. Officially changing its name in 2002 to Refugee Services of Texas, affiliations were formed with Church World Service and Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service to resettle refugees in the Dallas area. Dallas is also the home of the Refugee Services of Texas Administration Office and Board of Directors.

RST Dallas offers resettlement services to incoming refugees, helping them integrate into the American workplace and society, with the ultimate goal of achieving self-sufficiency. Refugees arrive with significant barriers to these objectives, which staff members work diligently to remove. Assisting clients with access to safe, affordable housing, health screenings, school enrollment, public services, social security, English language acquisition, legal services and employment are examples of the many services RST Dallas offers. An employment program is offered to assist refugees in job readiness, resume development, job search, and job placement.

RST relies on community partnerships to successfully help refugees adjust to their new lives in the United States. The rapid time frame in which clients achieve self-sufficiency would hardly be possible without ongoing involvement from volunteers and community groups.

A mentor program is available to individuals who would like to work directly with refugees in their resettlement to the Dallas area. Mentor duties include activities such as being part of a support network, explaining utility bills, taking clients to health appointments, shopping, or assisting clients to access local resources. Experience has shown that the more contact a refugee has with members of the local community the better they integrate and succeed. Volunteers are always needed to provide other support including setting up apartments, organizing donation drives, administrative/office help, and other activities. Special programs are available for community groups and congregations who would like to formally sponsor a refugee family. Please contact RST Dallas at (214) 821-4883 or dallas@refugeeservicesoftexas.org with volunteer inquiries and join us today in this challenging and important work.
